The Why of Why in Workplace

Nov 6, 2020 | Posted by Jeff Weil | California Economics, Commercial and Business Insurance, Commercial Real Estate, Commercial Tenant Improvement Contractor, Employment, Newsletter, Office Furniture, Office Furniture Vendors, Office Space, Pandemic, Real Estate Landlords, Sublease, Tips for Tenants, Trends, U.S. Economics, Workspace, World Economy |

Maya Donnon, Sven Schroeter of KSS Architects (among other co-authors) in a Corenet Global article titled ‘Why Workplace’ discuss the paradox corporate America is going through. They cite Facebook who has committed remote work as a permanent option for its employees while at the same time committing to millions of feet of new office space. The answer, is, why does a company need office space? It can be critical for face-to-face collaboration, for mentoring and training,  and for reinforcing corporate cultures. Having everyone in a physical office five days a week may be something of the past for many corporations, but there still may be a critical need to have a physical space for synergistic interactions that may be far less fruitful on a Zoom call. What do employers want and why, and what do employees want and why will be the critical elements in answering the Why of the Workplace.
