Governor Newsom Wants State Workers Back in the Office Four Days A Week, One of Their Unions Using CEQA to Fight This

If  I had relocated my home during Covid and have been working from home ever snce, and now was being forced to commute one or two hours a day each way to get to the office, how happy would I be? he Union of State Attorneys is claiming that forcing these employees back to the office will add 15,000 tons of additional carbon dioxide per month which is detrimental to the environment. They want to freeze the status quo of two days in the office per week. “The strategy lands as a direct assault on a policy that has become one of the most contentious labor flashpoints in Sacramento. CEQA, long the bane of housing developers who blame the statute for choking off new construction, is now being repurposed by white-collar government workers determined to defend the hybrid schedules they have built their lives around since the pandemic. California lawmakers amended the law last year to curb its use against urban infill housing, according to a CalMatters report from June 2025.
