San Francisco/Bay Area Dominates Global Venture Capital Funding
Silicon Valley helped put the San Francisco/Bay Area including Silicon Valley on the map back in the 1970’s, and South San Francisco is the 2nd biggest Biotech center after Boston-Cambridge. Genetech just unveiled its $5 billion dollar plan to overhaul its 225-acre campus in South San Francisco. Last year the San Francisco Bay Area had 33% of all the Venture Capital funding in the world, according to an article published March 12, 2026, in TheRegistry. In 2025 San Francisco had $117 billion in VC funding, and for the first three months of 2026 is already up to almost $44 billion in VC funding. AI dominates this, and these companies are leasing office space to go along with the increased capitalization. As one example, OpenAI now has over 1 million square feet of San Francisco office space.
