AI Is Coming Whether We Want it or Not
I have a very good friend who runs an engineering and manufacturing company with less than 200 employees. He recently told me the deeper he gets into the new AI tools the more he is convinced that within the next six months he won’t need half of his current employees. This is in engineering, administration, and sales. My friend is not a computer geek but has immersed himself into really learning how to use the new tools that AI can provide. Taking processes and making them more efficient and then making those efficient processes even better. Repeated over and over. And to him, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Anthropic, one of the largest AI companies, predicts 94% exposure to jobs in computer, software engineers, and computer user support, and 90% exposure to data entry clerks and administrative roles. For business and finance, 80% impact on jobs like financial analysts, market research and marketing specialists. Paralegals and legal assistants face 70% job exposure. We are going from the oxen pulling the farm plow to the mega tractors and it feels a bit scary because it is happening so fast. What are your thoughts?
